Nonprofits & Education
More mission, less spent on technology
Nonprofits and schools get judged on how they spend every dollar, and technology rarely feels like the mission. We keep costs down with nonprofit licensing and right-sized plans, then make sure donor, student, and family information is genuinely protected.
The realities
What makes nonprofits and schools different
Real data, small budget
Donor payment details, student records, and family contact information all carry serious obligations. The funding to protect them rarely arrives labeled for that purpose.
Volunteers and high turnover
Seasonal staff, volunteers, and board members come and go, often with shared logins and accounts nobody remembers to close. Access sprawl is the norm rather than the exception.
Donation and grant fraud
Fake donation appeals impersonating your organization, and payment redirection emails aimed at your finance staff, both show up regularly during campaigns and grant cycles.
Whoever is handy becomes IT
A teacher, an operations manager, or a board member with technical instincts ends up owning technology on top of their real job. It works until it very suddenly does not.
IT built for nonprofits and schools
Nonprofits and schools face an uncomfortable mismatch. They hold sensitive information (donor records, payment details, student and family data, sometimes health or immigration information) with budgets and staffing that would look thin at a for-profit a third of their size. Attackers do not adjust for that.
There is also a trust dimension that makes incidents unusually costly. Donors give because they believe the organization is careful. Families enroll on the same assumption. A breach damages the relationships the mission depends on, and those are much harder to rebuild than systems.
The good news is that this sector has real advantages available. Major vendors offer deeply discounted or donated licensing to qualifying nonprofits and schools, and a great deal of meaningful security comes from configuration rather than purchases. We spend the discount well and skip what you do not need.
How we help
What working with us looks like
Right-sized, not stripped down
We start with the essentials that carry the most risk: protected accounts, protected devices, working backups, and email defense. Then we add only what your mission actually needs, in the order that reduces risk fastest.
Nonprofit licensing put to work
Qualifying organizations can get donated or heavily discounted licensing from vendors like Microsoft and Google. We handle eligibility and setup so the discount reaches your budget instead of sitting unclaimed.
Donor and student data protected properly
Controlled access so people see only what their role requires, encryption, safer handling of payment information, and sensible retention so you are not holding records you no longer need.
Access that keeps up with turnover
Individual accounts instead of shared logins, a simple process for adding volunteers and seasonal staff, and reliable removal when someone leaves. Boring, and one of the highest-value things you can fix.
Layered defense with 24/7 automated monitoring
Modern protection on every computer, filtering that catches impersonation of your leadership and your donors, and automated monitoring that can contain a compromised machine overnight. Our team responds during business hours.
Evidence for grants and boards
Funders and boards increasingly ask how you protect data. We keep straightforward documentation of your safeguards so those questions have a clear answer.

Rules and requirements
What you may need to answer for
The obligations that most often apply to nonprofits and schools.
- FERPA
- Protects student education records and limits who may access or disclose them. It shapes how student information is stored, shared with parents and staff, and retained.
- PCI DSS
- Applies wherever donations or tuition are taken by card. The practical goal is to keep card data out of your own systems, which reduces both risk and paperwork substantially.
- Grant and funder requirements
- Government and foundation grants increasingly include data protection terms and reporting obligations. Meeting them can be a condition of the award or of renewal.
- State breach notification laws
- If donor, student, or family personal information is exposed, notification duties apply on defined timelines. Having a plan written in advance keeps the response from consuming your leadership team.

FAQ
Questions we hear from nonprofits and schools
How do you keep IT affordable for a nonprofit or school?
Three ways. We right-size, starting with the essentials that carry the most risk instead of a full package. We claim the nonprofit and education licensing programs vendors offer, which for qualifying organizations can be donated or steeply discounted. And we offer both flat-rate managed plans and pay-as-you-go support, so you can buy only what you need this year.
We rely on volunteers. How do we give them access safely?
Individual accounts, never shared logins, with access limited to what the role genuinely requires and an end date where it makes sense. We set up a simple process for adding and removing people so it survives turnover. Shared passwords are the single most common problem we find in this sector, and fixing it costs almost nothing.
Are nonprofits really targeted by attackers?
Yes, and often because attackers expect weaker defenses rather than because of what an organization does. Payment details, donor identities, and student or family records all have value, and organizations under pressure to keep operating are seen as more likely to pay a ransom. Impersonation of your leadership during a campaign is also common, because donors trust your name.
Can you help us meet the data requirements in our grants?
Yes. We map the requirements in the award to specific controls, put them in place, and keep documentation you can produce during reporting or renewal. If a funder asks how donor or program data is protected, you should have a clear answer rather than an assurance.
Do you work with private schools and small districts?
Yes. Independent schools, preschools, and small education organizations are a good fit, especially when technology has been carried by a teacher or an operations lead alongside their real role. We handle FERPA-related access questions, protect the systems families interact with, and keep costs aligned with education pricing.
